Recently we were contacted by an SEO seller on Fiverr, who wanted to create 10 “high PR” backlinks for us for $5. We sighed. We’ve seen this movie before and it never ends well. Yet the seller insisted, “I guarantee this gig. 100%!”
Let’s look at what that really means.
The Free Dictionary tells us that guarantee means: provide a formal assurance or promise, esp. that certain conditions shall be fulfilled relating to a product, service, or transaction. Example:
“the con artist guarantees that the dirt pile will yield at least 20 ounces of gold”
What is a guarantee worth without something backing it up? It’s nothing more than a promise and usually an empty promise at that. On Fiverr, you can sometimes get your $5 credited back to your account if you can demonstrate the seller didn’t perform the work as specified.
That’s great for an artist making a drawing or a graphics guy doing a video. But with SEO? Forget it. You’ll be told that it “takes time” for backlinks to start working.
The truth is that any backlink you can buy on Fiverr is worthless. Totally, utterly and completely worthless. People get away with selling them because most buyers don’t know how to measure link effectiveness.
Does this mean the Fiverr seller is deliberately cheating you? Sometimes. But also sometimes this person just doesn’t know very much about SEO (despite the massive experience he may boast of).
Take it from us: Save your money. Don’t buy backlinks on Fiverr. That guarantee isn’t even worth the electrons it’s written on.
