Was Fiverr hacked on January 14?

If posters on the BlackHatWorld forum are to be believed, it sure looks like it.

At 4:12 pm a user reported all Fiverr gigs were redirecting to an mdlasky “Jesus” page. In other words, no matter what URL you typed in, you’d get the Jesus gig instead.

Another user wonders why anyone would bother redirecting to another gig, as it is simple to just ban a user. If you’re the hacker, why not send the traffic to your own off-Fiverr offer?

A third user notes that whatever gig he clicks it redirects him to “that review blog.” It was a brand-new gig seemingly created by Fiverr user priecily, offering to promote your product with a review on her PR5 business blog. (The gig has since been suspended or removed, though priecily is still active on Fiverr.)

A few minutes later it was all over and things were back to normal. The priecily gig had gotten several dozen orders in the meantime, though, which we’re guessing were ultimately cancelled.

It looks like either somebody found a way in — not, we presume, the Fiverr sellers whose gigs were briefly featured — or a programmer at Fiverr messed up while making changes to the live site.

We’ll probably never know for sure.
